What is a country specific Blog URL

There is a TLD(Top Level Domain), the .com in the DNS(Domain Name System) of the internet operated by ‘Verysign’. Later the domain names like, .org, .net, .edu and many more were came into existence. Now every country has been allotted a country code top level domain, For example India has been allotted the code ‘.in’,  Australia has been allotted ‘.au’, Pakistan has been allotted  ‘.pk’ United Kingdom has been allotted code ‘.uk’ and America has been allotted the code ‘.us’. Hence if a blog’s URL ends with a domain name other than .com i.e. .in, .pk, .au etc is a country specific domain.

The country specific blog URLs may have some negative impact on your blog as the URLs may differ for different users. Your Google+ counts, Facebook likes, number of Tweets may be less. The same problem may occur with your comments if you use a third party commenting platform like face book or disqus etc. There are chances of loosing some Google juice, if you don’t implement canonicalization properly. Thus we can see that it may have a negative impact on the factors effecting your page rank.

How to get rid of a country specific Blog URL

If you want a permanent solution of this problem, you have to make a small change in the section of your blog’s template. Go to your blogger dash board, Template and take a back up of your template. Then click Edit HTML, The HTML file will open. Click ‘Ctrl+F’, the search box will open. Type in the search box and press enter, the Tag will be highlighted. Paste the following piece of code under .

Safely save your template and exit. Now your blog will always display a blogspot.com URL and not the country specific URL.
