The World Wide Web (WWW) came out as a result of the famous British computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee who, while working as computer engineer at the Swiss based company CERN in 1989 invented the www. It is an information space where documents and other web resources are identified by URLs, interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. Basically The Web, or the World Wide Web, is a systematic arrangement of Internet servers that uses existing landline and wireless communication systems and support the documents which are specially formatted in a markup language called HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) that supports links to other documents, as well as graphics, audio, and video files.

Even before coming “www” in existence information were exchanged but the procedure was much complicated. In 1989 Sir Tim Berners-Lee thought of developing a mechanism to arrange the information and placed the concept of “www” before the world on 6 August 1991 and thus the “www” came into existence. It is a type of database and anybody can take any information useful for him through the internet. Information is stored there according to categories and usefulness and demand.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee accepted the challenge and the website data.gov.uk came into existence.
